Essentials of Construction Blueprint Reading (Summer 2025)

Dates: May 5 - July 14, 2025

Format: Online or asynchronous (not live) basis

Duration: 10 weeks

Schedule: Weekly online modules, commitment of approximately 3-5 hours per week

Total Time Commitment: 30-50 hours

This 10-week course is for those looking to advance their knowledge and understanding of construction plans and specifications. The course is designed to prepare participants to identify, read and interpret construction drawings.

Delivered from an applied perspective, participants will use construction plans and specifications in each module to construct a building. Areas of focus include drawing types, symbols, details, sections and specific elements and trades that comprise the construction plans in conjunction with the specifications.

Participants who successfully complete this program will be able to:

1. Describe the basic elements of construction drawings.

2. Demonstrate an understanding of how drawings, construction plans, specifications and the construction process are interrelated.

3. Read and interpret construction plans and specifications.

4. Conduct basic quantity surveying and estimating take-off.

Students will be expected to complete weekly assigned readings, online quizzes, and complete subcategory certificates. They will also be expected to participate in weekly discussion forums and contribute to the class’s understanding of topical materials. Completion of assigned projects related to the materials presented will also be required.

Please note: This program is self-paced and includes weekly modules.

Add/Drop Policy: Students are eligible for a full refund if communicated within week 1 via email to our office as well as the instructor of record. Students dropped from the course will no longer have access to course materials and are ineligible for any credentials related to the course if/when a refund is provided.

Students are required to complete introductory assignments or acknowledgment of enrollment within 1 week of the course start date. Failure to do so will result in the student being dropped from the course/program without refund.

Cancellation Policy

If a program is canceled, you will be notified by email and phone and issued a full refund within 20 business days. Individuals who cancel after the start of a program will not receive a refund. No refunds will be granted after a student accesses the online course materials or 30 days after registration, whichever comes first.
